New Casino Proposed for South African City

25 November 2003

BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa – As reported by All Africa: "A new casino is on the cards for Bloemfontein, with the Free State Gambling and Racing Board expected to announce next week the relocation of the Thaba Nchu licence to the city.

"The casino, whose licence was first issued in the 1990s, is being moved because it was in a rural area and therefore not profitable, said Sun International spokesman Mike van Vuuren.

"…The casino complex, which will cost R217,5m (US$33.19 million) to develop, is a joint venture between Sun International and its empowerment partner Mangaung Sun.

"…The complex would comprise an 80-room hotel, 150-seat conference centre, a sports bar, restaurant, children's entertainment area and a 1400m' casino floor with 230 machines and 10 tables."
