New Casino Plans Approved For Viejas Reservation

SAN DIEGO -- As reported by NBC San Diego: "The county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a plan to build a second casino on an Indian reservation east of San Diego.

"The first example of "casino consolidation" will be seen in Alpine, on the Viejas reservation.

"Viejas is one of the biggest, most popular casinos in San Diego County, but it has faced competition from the smaller Ewiiaapaayp band of Kumeyaay Indians.

"The Ewiiaapaayp wanted to build a casino 1 mile west of Viejas. The county board of supervisors approved a solution that allows the Ewiiaapaayp to build their casino on Viejas land, with Viejas getting a portion of the profits of the new casino..."
