Nevada Supreme Court Denies Wynn's Request for Rehearing23 September 2001CARSON CITY, Nevada –– Associated Press: “The Nevada Supreme Court has denied a request by casino executive Steve Wynn to reconsider its earlier ruling throwing out a $3.2 million libel judgment in his favor. ”Thursday's decision sets the stage for a new trial involving book publisher Lyle Stuart. ”…The libel case grew out of the publication of a book about Wynn written by Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist John L. Smith called `Running Scared: The Life and Treacherous Times of Las Vegas Casino King Steve Wynn.’ ”Wynn sued Stuart and Barricade over an advertising circular used by Stuart that paraphrased a Scotland Yard report. It suggested Wynn was connected to organized crime. ”Wynn won the $3.2 million judgment in a 1997 jury trial, but the Supreme Court in January threw out the award in a 6-0 opinion, saying Clark County District Judge Sally Loehrer failed to give proper instructions to the jury…” |
