Nevada Governments to Extend Ban on New Casinos1 February 2005NEVADA -- As reported by the Las Vegas Review Journal: "Facing possible state regulations on neighborhood casinos, local officials agreed Monday their moratoriums on gaming development should be extended into the summer. "Washoe County, Reno and Sparks officials worried about imposing state control of casino proposals adjacent to state highways. "Reno Councilman Dwight Dortch said regional work on neighborhood casinos should move forward. "...Reno Mayor Bob Cashell agreed but said state interference could be real. "...The Reno City Council agreed to extend a proposed moratorium restricting master plan and zoning amendments allowing for casino development until after the 2005 Nevada Legislature session and has scheduled that vote Feb. 9. "...The Sparks City Council voted to extend its ban against unrestricted gaming projects with less than 200 hotel rooms beyond Legislature adjournment and wants to include a restriction against projects without at least 200 hotel rooms. "...The moratoriums would not affect casino projects already approved or with at least 200 hotel rooms in areas zoned tourist-commercial or casino-resort or projects under review before the moratorium..." |
