Nevada Casino Pauses Gambling to Mark Attack Anniversary

LAS VEGAS -- As reported by the Associated Press: ``Dealers at one Nevada casino held their cards for a moment Wednesday and cocktail servers stopped serving to mark the time a hijacked aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center a year ago.

``The Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno announced a moment of silence at 5:46 a.m. PDT, although slot machines continued ringing as a men's chorus sang "God Bless America." The casino announced a second moment of silence at 6:03 a.m. -- the time a second aircraft crashed into the second Trade Center tower.

``It was a rare moment of quiet in a Nevada casino, with security guards standing silent, their hands folded, and cocktail servers pausing with drinks on their trays.

``...The Bellagio hotel-casino planned a moment of silence at noon, along with a choreographed show featuring patriotic songs at a "Dancing Waters" fountain on the Las Vegas Strip.

``At the New York-New York hotel casino, officials planned to release white doves and a ceremony at a Statue of Liberty replica...

``...The Atlantis in Reno was planning additional pauses at a national time of remembrance at 9 a.m., then at 9:11 a.m. and at 9:11 p.m..."
