Nevada Board Approves Slot Machine Interest Sale13 August 2004CARSON CITY, Nevada – As reported by the Associated Press: "The state Gaming Control Board voted without comment Thursday to endorse plans by the newest member of the Nevada Gaming Commission to sell his interest in a slot-machine venture -- an interest that blocks him from serving on the panel. "Prominent Las Vegas attorney John Moran Jr. was named to the commission in late June but skipped a July meeting and will miss at least the start of an Aug. 26 session. He can't take his seat until the commission votes that day to approve the control board's recommendation. "Under state law, nobody with a direct financial interest or active involvement in a gambling operation can serve on the commission. Moran, 57, holds a 10 percent interest in Green Horizons Group, which has five Henderson-based convenience stores with slot machines. "A gambling interest transfer normally is routine -- but Moran's sparked interest because his application wasn't filed with casino regulators until July 22, nearly a month after his June 25 appointment by Gov.
