Negotiations Over Seneca Casino Revenue Continue

NIAGARA FALLS, New York – As reported by the Buffalo News: "Negotiations over how to disburse revenue from Seneca Niagara Casino have picked up speed in the State Legislature since Niagara County filed a lawsuit seeking 75 percent of the local money, Sen. George D. Maziarz said last week.

"'The county has sent a message to some people to come to this table,' said Maziarz, R-Newfane. 'They probably believe it's better to negotiate a deal than to have the court impose a decision.'

"Still, Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte, D-Niagara Falls, has made it clear she objects to the Niagara County Legislature's request for more of the nearly $11.2 million local allocation, and said the lawsuit's existence is hurting the chances for state lawmakers to come to an agreement.

"…The county benefited from casino money last year when the Niagara Falls International Airport and Niagara Tourism and Convention Corp. - the county's marketing agency - each received about $1 million. They are expected to get about the same this year.

"A majority of the County Legislature believes the county deserves more.

"…The Council believes the city - as host to the casino - should receive 100 percent of the local allocation…"
