Nebraska Voters to Decide on Casino

LINCOLN, Nebraska – As reported by the Omaha: "One casino petition drive will be suspended because of the Legislature's vote to put a casino measure on the ballot.

"…Wednesday, lawmakers guaranteed that Nebraskans will have their say on at least one proposal to allow casino gambling in the state.

"…The gambling measure, Legislative Resolution 11CA, passed on a vote of 31-16. The constitutional amendment would allow up to two casinos, with locations, regulations and other details to be determined later by the Legislature. Local voters would have the final say about having a casino in their county.

"…Also Wednesday, state senators voted 32-15 in favor of LR 209CA, a proposed constitutional amendment that would earmark 10 percent of Nebraska Lottery proceeds - about $2 million a year - to support the State Fair.

"Both proposals will appear on the Nov. 2 ballot…"
