Nebraska Tribe to Compete for Casino License10 August 2004NEBRASKA – As reported by the Omaha World Herald: "The Winnebago Tribe doesn't want to sit out the casino game in Nebraska. "If voters approve a casino gambling measure in November, the tribe plans to compete with Las Vegas casino companies or anyone else seeking a license to operate a state-taxed and -regulated casino in Omaha or Lincoln. "…Two casino gambling proposals have been offered for the November ballot. "The first would allow two casinos anywhere in Nebraska. It was put on the ballot by the Legislature and has the support of the Venetian, a Las Vegas casino company. "The second is a petition effort sponsored by Coast Casinos, state horsemen and keno parlors. It would allow two casinos in Omaha and 4,900 slot and video poker machines in bars, restaurants and horse tracks statewide. Signatures on those petitions are being validated. "If the proposals pass, federal law would allow tribes to develop casinos offering the same games on their reservations…" |
