Nebraska Lottery Reports Record Sales

LINCOLN, Nebraska – As reported by the Associated Press: "Nebraskans might have rejected plans to allow casino gambling in Tuesday's election, but that doesn't mean they don't like to gamble - at least on the lottery.

"Nearly $93 million was spent on lottery games in Nebraska in the fiscal year that ended June 30, according to a report released this week.

"That topped the high of $81 million spent the year before. Sales of Nebraska lottery tickets increased by 14 percent during the year.

"…Nebraska voters approved a constitutional amendment in 1992 to authorize the lottery. It opened for business with scratch-ticket sales on Sept. 11, 1993, as Nebraska became the 37th state to offer a lottery.

"Since then, more than $819 million has been wagered - the equivalent of nearly $500 from every man, woman and child in the state…"
