Nebraska Lottery Director Avoids Charges

NEBRASKA – As reported by the Lincoln Journal Star: "State Lottery Director James Quinn will not be charged in connection with his wife's trip to Greece paid by a lottery vendor, Attorney General Jon Bruning announced Thursday.

"Quinn subsequently repaid the vendor for $5,056.90 in airline tickets, as required by state law, and it was Bruning's conclusion that Quinn always had planned to do that.

"Waiting nearly five months after the trip to repay Intralot USA for its cost was 'an error in judgment' but not a criminal violation, the attorney general said.

"…The patrol conducted an investigation into the matter, interviewing 13 people. It concluded there was ample evidence Quinn never expected to have Intralot pick up the costs of his wife's trip to Greece with him last September to look at equipment that will be used in Nebraska's online lottery games.

"State law prohibits public officials from accepting gifts of travel or lodging for spouses in the course of official business. Violating the law is a misdemeanor.

"…Intralot already had been awarded a seven-year contract with the Nebraska Lottery prior to the trip…"
