Nebraska Lawmaker Proposes Two Casinos

LINCOLN, Nebraska – As reported by the Omaha World Herald: "State Sen. DiAnna Schimek is betting that two will be the magic number for a casino amendment to emerge from the Legislature.

"The Lincoln lawmaker Monday unveiled her compromise proposal to ask voters to authorize two casinos in Nebraska.

"…After talking to every potential gambling supporter in the Nebraska Legislature, Schimek concluded that one casino would be too few and three casinos would be too many to garner the 30 votes she needs to get expanded gambling on the November ballot.

"With a proposal for two, Schimek said, she could balance the interests of lawmakers who want casinos in both eastern and western Nebraska with those who don't want gambling to proliferate too much.

"..With Legislative Resolution 14CA, Schimek proposes to put a legislatively controlled casino proposal on the ballot to compete with as many as seven slot machine and casino schemes being aired in initiative petitions…"
