Nebraska Gambling Petition Raises $1.2 Million

NEBRASKA – As reported by the Lincoln Journal-Star: "The three groups hoping to expand Nebraska's gambling options have raised more than $1.2 million for the signature-gathering process — most of it from out-of-state donors.

"Boyd Gaming Inc., which owns a number of casinos, provided the bulk of the money, giving about $755,000 to a proposal that would would allow a casino in each of Nebraska's three congressional districts.

"The group supporting this plan is called the Committee For Better Schools and More Jobs in Nebraska.

"The three Nebraska Native tribes cooperating on a single-casino proposal raised about $291,000, most of it from an Arizona tribe, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, that has been successful with gambling, according to reports to the state.

"The Nebraska tribes are calling their effort Nebraskans for Local Community Development and Tribal Self-Reliance.

"Keno operators in the state who want to offer customers video keno machines raised about $160,000 by the end of May, according to a spokesman. Their committee is called Nebraskans for Video Keno…"
