Nebraska Farm Bureau Opposes Gambling Initiative

NEBRASKA – As reported by the Lincoln Journal-Star: "The Nebraska Farm Bureau has announced its opposition to a gambling initiative that will appear on the Nov. 2 ballot.

"'Initiative 418 is much more than gambling, it relates to how we govern in this state,' Nebraska Farm Bureau President Keith Olsen said in a news release Thursday.

"The initiative would require any changes to a law enacted by initiative to have approval by at least two-thirds of the Legislature, instead of a simple majority. That would mean a change would need to pass by 33 votes instead of the 25 votes now required.

"…Olsen said that Initiative 418 would put minority groups in Nebraska - including farmers and ranchers - at a disadvantage…"
