Nearly 40 percent of employees would accept Mashantucket buyout

MASHANTUCKET, Connecticut -- As reported by The Day: "Nearly 40 percent of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation's 722 tribal-government employees have indicated they would accept a severance package the Tribal Council offered them about two weeks ago, a tribal spokeswoman said Friday.

"Two hundred eighty-six employees indicated they would accept the package, Lori Potter, the spokeswoman, said. Friday was the deadline for employees to respond.

"The tribe must now determine which of the employees it will let go.

"...The tribe trimmed about 170 employees from its tribal-government rolls in May, about 90 percent of whom accepted a severance package. The rest were laid off.

"The tribe, which owns Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods, also has laid off hundreds of casino employees this year..."
