Nautica Charity Poker Festivals Begin

CLEVELAND, Ohio – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Next Thursday begins the first of 24 Nautica Charity Poker Festivals designed to raise $1 million for Cleveland- area charities by doubling the number of Festivals held in 2005. The Cuyahoga Board of County Commissioners recently approved a lease for the Nautica Charity Poker Festivals paving the way to bring Texas Hold 'Em to the Nautica Entertainment Complex ("Nautica") this summer. The Festivals will consist of 24 four-day festivals conducted by a wide variety of charities featuring poker played inside the 20,000 sq. ft. air-conditioned Festival Center.

Created to generate revenue for local charities and excitement at Nautica and in downtown Cleveland, the 2006 Nautica Charity Poker Festivals are expected to again draw thousands of visitors to downtown Cleveland. Over $450,000 in net income was raised by charities hosting Festivals in 2005, an average of $35,000 per charity hosting a four-day Festival.

"We conducted a successful and profitable festival last year," stated Kevin Hartman, Coordinator of Athletics & Student Activities for the Garfield Heights City School District. "We are glad to be returning in 2006," he added. According to Carolina Martin, Executive Director of Art on Wheels, participating allowed them to expand the art programs they offer. "Our kids are the beneficiaries."

The Nautica Charity Poker Festivals will begin April 27th and run through October 8th. "We are pleased that all of the participating charities from 2005 are returning in 2006," stated David C. Grunenwald, Vice-President of Development/Leasing for Jacobs Investments, Inc., owner and operator of the Nautica and the coordinator of the Festivals. "They will be joined by nine new charities all of whom seek to raise much needed funds from an entirely new source," he added.
