Native American Economic Impact Summit held in Connecticut

CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "Each month, the state receives 25 percent of the slot revenue from the two tribal casinos, an amount dictated by the compacts the state made with the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes.

"But there are millions more entering the state's economy every day as Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun write paychecks, run construction sites and buy the simple things -- food, building material -- from Connecticut suppliers.

"Thursday, representatives from the casinos, local and state government, as well as social service agencies, will hold the first Native American Economic Impact Summit in Hartford.

"The meeting, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, will discuss issues such as housing, jobs, tax revenue and transportation.

"...The event also will address the issue of how to grow and protect the state's gaming industry in the face of increased competition from facilities in Rhode Island, New York and, most likely, Massachusetts..."
