National Airline's Closes, Passengers Stranded

7 November 2002

LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Associated Press: “Tourists in the nation's gambling capital were left with questions and no tickets Thursday after National Airlines ended nearly two years in bankruptcy court and quit flying.

“The Las Vegas-based airline grounded its 18 aircraft late Wednesday in Las Vegas with little warning and no refunds for thousands of travelers forced to make other travel arrangements.

“…Three volunteer former National ticket agents and two airport employees were helping dozens of travelers at the National counter at McCarran on Thursday, but the company was offering no refunds and was telling customers to contact their credit card companies. The airline's Web site also was shut down.

“…Rosemary Vassiliadis, deputy airport director, said most other airlines were honoring National tickets on a space-available basis, but were charging fees for the switch.

“Airport spokeswoman Hilarie Grey said that passengers with reservations for future National flights were being told to contact their credit card companies and other airlines by telephone…”
