Natchez May Get Another Casino17 February 2004MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Clarion Ledger: ``The Mississippi Gaming Commission is expected to approve a $53 million casino development for Natchez. ``Charles Cato of St. Petersburg, Fla., president of Emerald Star Casino and Resort, is scheduled to discuss plans Wednesday for the complex that would be built south of the Mississippi River bridge in Natchez. ``It would be Natchez's second casino. ``Plans call for the existing Ramada Inn and The Briars bed-and-breakfast inn — the site where Jefferson Davis married Varina Howell in 1845 — to be purchased and become part of the casino development, he said. ``The Emerald Star Casino would use 35,000 square feet of an 87,000-square-foot barge and include 800 slot machines and 30 table games, he said. It would employ about 400 people, he said. ``…In keeping with state regulations, the developer would have six months to secure funding and gain commission approval and two years to open the casino, said Larry Gregory, executive director of the commission, who is recommending the three gaming commissioners approve the casino site and development plans…" |
