N.Z. track funding criticized

NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the New Zealand Press: "Anti-gambling lobbyists are condemning a Christchurch charitable trust for putting pokie grants into horse racing.

"The Eureka Trust, one of Christchurch's largest charities, operates gaming machines in hotels and taverns to raise funds for the community.

"…Problem Gambling Foundation (PGF) South Island manager David Coom said it was 'bizarre' that 20 per cent of the $5.1 million distributed went to the horse-racing industry.

"…Eureka Trust chairman Barry Corbett dismissed the foundation's concerns…"
