Music legend Leon Russell to play Hard Rock Tulsa on June 164 April 2016(PRESS RELEASE) -- Leon Russell is one of the most accomplished and versatile musicians in the history of rock 'n' roll, and he's bringing the hits of his distinguished and unique 50-year career to The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa June 16. Tickets start at $35 and go on sale April 14. Born in southwest Oklahoma in 1942, Leon began piano lessons at age 4. He was playing in Tulsa nightclubs at the age of 14. After graduating from high school, Leon's band, The Starlighters, went on the road with Jerry Lee Lewis. He left Tulsa at the age of 17 for Los Angeles, where he began playing in L.A. clubs and eventually became one of the best session musicians in Hollywood. The man of many talents, including singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, musician and more, has collaborated with hundreds of artists, such as Elton John, Glen Campbell, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, John Lennon and many others. Russell's first solo album to earn a gold record was his 1971 "Leon Russell and The Shelter People." The "Carney" album, released in 1972, would be his best-seller and included the single "Tight Rope," which reached No. 11 on the pop music charts. The multiplatform artist's career went on to include numerous albums, including "Will O' The Wisp," "The Wedding Album" and "Hank Wilson's Back." His celebrated hits include "Lady Blue," "Stranger In a Strange Land" and "Delta Lady." Russell is also known for enterprising record labels, including Paradise Records. The legendary musician was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2011 and inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in June 2011. He is also a member of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Russell continues to write songs, record and thrill audiences on his nonstop tour across the U.S. Leon's son, Teddy Jack, and daughters, Sugaree and Tina Rose, have previously been in his band and toured with him. |
