MSPT Michigan State Poker Championship set to begin9 October 2017(PRESS RELEASE) -- This Thursday, the 2017 MSPT Michigan State Poker Championship gets underway at FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan. A series of $65 and $250 qualifiers, both of which have drawn massive numbers, will culminate in our $1,100 buy-in, $300,000 guarantee Main Event from 12-15 October. The Main Event, which requires players be 21 years of age to participate, will feature three starting flights, beginning with Day 1A at noon on Thursday, 12 October. Days 1B and 1C will then be held at noon local time on Friday, 13 October and Saturday, 14 October, respectively. The remaining players from each flight will combine on Sunday, 15 October at 11 a.m. and play until a champion is crowned. The Main Event final table will be broadcast LIVE (15-minute delay) worldwide on MSPTPoker using RFID technology, allowing all viewers to see the hole cards. In addition, the entirety of the Main Event will be live reported in the MSPT's live blog. Last May, Mike Shanahan prevailed over 1,066 entries (that meant a more than $1,000,000 prize pool was up for grabs) to win $216,829, However, that wasn't the Michigan State Poker Championship, which is only held in October. Instead, Brett Blackwood of Ypsilanti is the reigning champ after topping a field of 884 entries to win the 2016 MSPT Michigan State Poker Championship for $188,314.
