Mount Airy numbers continue to slide20 November 2007PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Citizens Voice: "Interest in Mount Airy Casino Resort waned for a third-straight week, even as a luxury hotel was added to the complex. "In weeks past, casino officials remained upbeat as wagers continued a precipitous descent. They pointed to expected increases after the opening last week of the two hotel wings attached to the slots parlor, and more amenities in the offing. "The first 90 of 188 rooms were available to visitors starting Thursday, but wagers from Monday through Sunday fell to $33.51 million, down about 8 percent from $36.5 million the week before, according to the state Gaming Control Board. "During its first week, $47.7 million was wagered at the 2,526 slot machines. "Every casino in the state has seen drop-offs after their opening week buzz, but none has seen gambling action cool near Mount Airy's rate of 30 percent..." |
