Mount Airy comes back to life12 March 2007PARADISE TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pennsylvania Times-Tribune: "The question caused construction manager Frank Ciminelli to smile broadly. "Will the hotel rooms at the new Mount Airy Resort and Casino offer any tip of the hat to the once-great destination, famed for its heart-shaped bathtubs? "'Rumor has it that there are still five of them still floating around here somewhere,' Mr. Ciminelli said of the famous tubs, joking that he'd like to find a way to work them into the project. "In truth, even if any of those tubs escaped the auction block before the old resort was razed, they belong to an era as different from today as the new resort is from its legendary — if tacky — predecessor. "Amble through the unfinished casino, even with workmen still pouring concrete floors, and it soon becomes obvious that this will not be your parents' Mount Airy. "…The gaming area alone will be about 70,000 square feet. Its wide-open hall will have a large glass sculpture as its centerpiece, and the classical elements mentioned above will be complemented here with more sleek materials, like onyx. "And as testament to the fact that this is not just a casino, the gaming hall will be flanked by entertainment venues including a night club and VIP area on one side, and eateries on the other…" |
