Mount Airy Casino Resort close to opening3 October 2007SCRANTON, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Citizens Voice: "With 12 days to go before its planned opening, Mount Airy Casino Resort has yet to meet all the conditions the state says are necessary before the first gambler puts his money in a slot machine. "Meeting at Lackawanna College Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved several measures that inched the Monroe County slots casino closer to its planned Oct. 15 public opening. But the board's chairman wouldn't commit to guaranteeing that a key condition - board approval for an independent audit committee nominated by Mount Airy - would be met by the target date. "...Mount Airy spokesman Kevin Feeley said the casino is still hopeful it will open to the public on Oct. 15. "...Under its agreement with the gaming board, Mount Airy must meet 59 conditions before it can invite about 3,000 guests to each of two 'test nights' that are required before its public opening. Feeley said more details about the test nights, which will benefit a charity or charities chosen by Mount Airy, should be released later this week..." |
