Most Kentucky Candidates Support Expanded Gambling13 August 2004KENTUCKY – As reported by the Kentucky Post: "Three of four Northern Kentucky legislative candidates participating in a forum Wednesday said they would be open to expanded gambling as a way to boost the economy of the state and region if voters ratified that idea. "State Senate candidate Kathy Groob, a Democrat, and 67th House District hopefuls Republican Mark Hayden and Democrat Dennis Keene expressed support of varying degrees for increasing gambling options in the commonwealth. "The sole opponent in the quartet to expanded gambling also is the only one of the four currently serving in the legislature: Groob's foe, state Sen. Jack Westwood, R-Crescent Springs. Westwood represents Kenton County's 23rd District. "…A number of Northern Kentucky organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce, supported a failed expanded gambling bill. "…Keene said it was foolish for Northern Kentucky to continue to lose gambling revenue to casino boats in Indiana…" |
