Moscow Mayor Wants Slots Gone29 November 2005MOSCOW – As reported by the Moscow News: "Moscow's mayor Yuri Luzhkov has called on the city government to get rid of 90 percent of the slot machines, extremely popular among Muscovites of all ages, RIA-Novosti reported. "…The gambling business has flourished in Russia in the post-Soviet era. Moscow alone has 56 casinos and 63,000 slot machines. "…Earlier, Valery Zhukov, deputy head of the department for Moscow's economic policy and development, said the monthly tax rate for slot machines would be doubled, from $131 to $262, and the rate for other types of gambling would increase from $3,498 to $4,373 per unit. |
