Morongo Casinos Employees Form Union11 August 2005CALIFORNIA – As reported by the California Press-Enterprise: "The union that represents hospitality and laundry workers has a green light to organize Morongo Casino Resort and Spa employees after a competing union was told to back down. "The AFL-CIO, the country's largest labor organization, gave UNITE HERE the rights to campaign for new members at American Indian casinos in California, a spokesman said. "The conflict over which union could organize these workers spilled over into a court battle last spring. But the federal lawsuit between UNITE HERE and the Communications Workers of America was dropped in favor of the AFL-CIO's ruling, which came down several weeks ago. "…UNITE HERE filed the suit in U.S. District Court in May, accusing the communication workers union of going back on a pledge not to organize California's tribal casinos. "Jack Gribbon, California political director for UNITE HERE, said the union has already renewed its efforts to organize Morongo workers.
