More South Koreans Seeking Voluntary Casino Ban

SOUTH KOREA – As reported by the Korea Times: "A growing number of gambling addicts have asked a local casino to deny them entry to the casino in a desperate bid to return to their normal daily lives.

"Kangwon Land in Kangwon Province, the only casino for Koreans in the country, said Thursday that 749 people voluntarily asked the casino to prohibit them from entering the gambling establishment last year.

"The number was up 20 percent from the total voluntary applications for the entry ban collected from 2001 to 2004 to 616 cases.

"The casino started receiving applications for an entry ban from the gambling addicts or their families in 2001.

"…Last year, Kangwon Land received self-imposed entry ban requests from more than 1,200 gamblers and their families.

"…The casino also limits the number of visits for residents of the mining region to once a month. Those who get money at nearby pawn shops and gamble at the casino are banned from entering the place for three months when detected for the first time, and are banned for six months when detected for the second time…"
