More pokies than a year ago10 September 2008ADELAIDE, Australia -- As reported by Adelaide Now: "The State Government is failing in its plan to remove 3000 pokies machines from gaming venues and there are about 100 more in operation now than a year ago. "Office of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner figures show there are 12,682 'live' machines in South Australia compared to 12,581 at the same time last year. "The number of 'live' machines fluctuates as they are serviced and premises renovated. "Only 2200 machines have been removed since legislation was passed in 2004 and plans to cut the remaining 800 have stalled. "The Government announced in September last year it would allow market forces to set the value of gaming machines in an effort to entice hoteliers to sell them..." |
