More Asia-Vegas Trips Canceled1 May 2003LAS VEGAS --Japan Airlines, which offers three flights a week between Tokyo and Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, has canceled about three-quarters of those round trips for this month. JAL has canceled nine out of its 13 May Las Vegas-Tokyo flights. The Tokyo-based airline has adopted a strategy of canceling a flight as soon as it becomes apparent that there isn't enough demand to make a trip financially worthwhile. JAL's confirmation of flight cancellations came Wednesday as Singapore Airlines announced that it is terminating its 9-month-old nonstop service between Las Vegas and Hong Kong. With the elimination of Singapore's three flights a week, JAL will offer the only nonstop Vegas-Asia service. JAL began curtailing flights in April in response to reduced demand brought upon by the war in Iraq and the outbreak of SARS. |
