More Arrests Expected from Alabama Gambling Bust11 August 2004ALABAMA – As reported by the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer: "More arrests may result from recent busts of gambling operations at two Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Lee County, Ala., Sheriff Jay Jones said Tuesday. "A total of seven Alabama men accused of promoting gambling at one of the posts in Lee County were arrested late last week and most recently, Monday, on various gambling charges. Those arrested -- including James R. Morris, a 59-year-old post commander at the Lake Harding VFW -- were identified as: Olin Kimbrough, 62, of Auburn; Jeffrey P. Hunt, 34, address unavailable; William Brown, 81, of 29 North Valley; Noah Tatum, 56, of Opelika; Wendell Willis, 56, of Valley, and Carlis Irving, 42, of Lanett. "…Jones said Morris, who posted more than $2,000 in bonds on misdemeanor charges of promoting gambling and possession of a gambling device, was 'more or less managing' the activity when deputies entered the building…" |
