Montana Casino, Tavern Supporters Present Compromises15 June 2005MONTANA – As reported Great Falls Tribune: "Casino and tavern supporters unveiled a set of compromises Tuesday night during a meeting of the City-County Planning Board. "The two groups have sat at opposite sides of the table during planning. "However, they spent at least the past month together with city staff hashing out criteria, standards and requirements for gaming in Great Falls. "Planning Director Ben Rangel, with City-County Planning, revealed the three-pronged approach to gaming. "In one situation, gaming will be allowed as an accessory to taverns, restaurants, hotels and motels. In another scenario, casinos can be established with location and development standards. Lastly, casinos can function within the parameters defined by the interim zoning ordinance currently in place. "While often contentious in Great Falls, gaming is just one of many land use issues in the Unified Land Development Code, the zoning and development revisions on the table Tuesday night. "…Casinos, private property rights and the Missouri River Corridor topped the public's list of concerns…" |
