Mohegan Sun slot winnings down 8.7 percent

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut -- As reported by The Day: "Mohegan Sun's slot winnings declined 8.7 percent last month compared to January 2008, the casino's poorest year-over-year performance since October.

"The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which manages the casino, reported its slots 'win' totaled $62.4 million, a quarter of which - $15.6 million - was sent to the state in accordance with the Mohegans' casino compact.

"'All in all, considering the weather and the overall economic conditions, it could be worse,' said Mitchell Etess, the Sun's chairman and chief executive officer.

"Mohegan Sun had reported slot decreases of 4.3 percent in December and 5.3 percent in November. In October, the decline was 9.1 percent.

"...Last week, Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods reported January slot winnings of $52.9 million, 7.3 percent less than Foxwoods reported the previous January. That represented a significant rebound from December, when Foxwoods' slots win was off 19.3 percent..."
