Mohegan Sun sizzles, Mount Airy payout rises

30 July 2008

PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Pocono Record: "Mohegan Sun continued to sizzle last week while Mount Airy's payout rate posted its third highest gain since opening eight months ago.

"Betting at Wilkes-Barre's Mohegan Sun racino reached $54.5 million, only slightly off the prior week's total. Last week featured the opening of its new, $208 million expansion that included a new casino which effectively doubled its slot machine inventory.

"Mount Airy saw a 2.4 percent increase in wagers, reaching $47 million last week.

"But the real news at the Paradise Township casino was the sharp jump in its payout rate to 92.2 percent, the highest in the state. That jump was worth about $3.8 million in additional winning payouts to Mount Airy guests.

"Mount Airy had seen its payout rate steadily decline since February, and had recently lost its leadership in that category.

"...The state's total wagers remained relatively unchanged, at $427.9 million. Gross terminal wagers came in at $33.8 million, generating $18.6 million in state gaming tax revenues."
