Mohegan Sun Loses Power

CONNECTTICUT – As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "The power outage at Mohegan Sun this morning was caused by a transformer failing and catching fire just after 3:30 a.m.

"Frank Chapman, chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Utility Authority and director of engineering for Mohegan Sun, said all but three emergency generators in the casino worked properly. Those generators stopped working when a switch on them caught fire, causing the Casino of the Sky to lose power.

"About 2,700 slot machines and 21 table games in the Casino of the Sky had to be shut down until power was restored at 9:30 a.m. The Casino of the Earth's 3,700 slot machines continued operating and only 10 of 50 tables games were shut down.

"Power started coming back on at 9:30 a.m. and was completely up at noon.

"More than 1,000 people at Mohegan Sun had to wait patiently for six hours before power to the casino could be restored. Only the hotel lobby and the Casino of the Earth had power…"
