Mohegan Sun host dog show

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Beagles, Terriers, Collies and Bulldogs along with Cardigan Welsh Corgis, Great Pyrenees, Norwegian Elkhounds and other fine breeds of championship dogs will compete for the Best in Show honors in the Mohegan Sun American Kennel Club (AKC) Challenge dog show at Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd.

Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster starting Friday, September 7th. Ticketmaster customers may log on to ticketmaster.com; call any Ticketmaster Charge by Phone number; or visit any Ticketmaster outlet. Tickets are also available at the Mohegan Sun Box Office starting Saturday, September 8th, subject to availability.

The Mohegan Sun AKC Challenge will be held from 9:30am to 3:00pm and from 7:00pm to 10:00pm each day. Tickets are priced at $10.00 for daytime sessions, $15.00 for nighttime sessions, and a one-day pass is also available for $20.00.

Over 150 breeds will participate in the Mohegan Sun AKC Challenge with prize winnings to total $25,000.00. A large number of breed classes are judged during the daytime sessions; finalists from each breed class will compete in group judging during the evening sessions. Best in Show will be presented at the evening session on Saturday, November 3rd.

Free dog show tours will be made available daily during the two-day Mohegan Sun AKC Challenge as well a special Meet the Breeds sessions. A complete schedule for these events will be available during the competition.

In addition, Mohegan Sun AKC Challenge programs will be on sale for the two day event which will list each dog in competition and include pictures of the Group and Best in Show winners from the 2006 event. Concession stands, sponsored by the American Kennel Club, will also feature information on the different breeds and responsible dog ownership as well as offer various dog related items for purchase.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) is the largest and second oldest purebred dog registry in the world. Founded on September 17, 1884, the AKC was formed as a "club of clubs" to advance the welfare of purebred dogs. Today, the AKC comprises 584 member clubs more than 4,000 licensed and affiliated clubs. The AKC registers 153 dog breeds (newest additions include the Glen of Imaal Terrier, the Neapolitan Mastiff and the Black Russian Terrier), and is the only purebred dog registry in the U.S. that conducts kennel inspections to ensure the health, safety and welfare of dogs. Today, more than 5,000 kennel inspections are conducted each year.
