Mohawks Bet on Monticello Raceway3 November 2005NEW YORK – As reported by the New York Times-Herald Record: "In a move they hope will move them closer to that elusive Catskills casino, the St. Regis Mohawks are abandoning Kutsher's Sports Academy for a proposed casino at Monticello Raceway. "In a letter sent yesterday to the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs, the tribe says it 'has formally decided to move forward with only the Monticello Raceway project.' "…The letter was signed by two of the tribe's three chiefs, Barbara Lazore and Lorraine White. The signature of Jim Ransom, who favors the Kutsher's project, was missing. But White said the decision was made by the entire tribal council. " The switch from Kutsher's and the management of Harrah's to Monticello Raceway and its owner, Empire Resorts, could mean faster approval of the Catskills' first casino…" |
