Mogul Ho Considers Betting on Philippines

PHILIPPINES – As reported by the Hong Kong Standard: "After being badly burned when his business partners became ensnared in a stock-trading scandal four years ago, Macau casino mogul Stanley Ho again flirted with the Philippines during a quick trip to receive an honorary doctorate earlier this week.

"Ho promised to `invest more in the Philippines' in remarks made during ceremonies granting him an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from the Angeles University Foundation, just outside the former United States Air Force base at Clark in Angeles City, about 100 kilometres north of Manila.

"…It was Ho's second visit to the Philippines since a local scandal scotched an earlier bid to get involved in casinos, restaurants and an electronic bingo venture in 1999.

"To loud applause he told the crowd that he believed in the `underlying soundness of the Philippine economy' and that he was undertaking investments in the country in `good faith'…"
