Missouri Town Closer to Floating Casino

ROCKAWAY BEACH, Missouri – As reported by the KYTV: "This small town in eastern Taney County is one step closer to being the home of a floating casino. Opponents still hope to stop the project in its tracks, however.

"Supporters of the proposed casino on Lake Taneycomo submitted more than 190,000 petition signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State on Wednesday. The petitions ask for a statewide election in November that would amend the Missouri Constitution to allow a casino in Rockaway Beach. The Constitution now restricts casinos to the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

"…The fight to bring gambling to Rockaway Beach is far from over. City leaders know they face many hurdles but say overcoming them will be worth it.

"…The biggest hurdle probably won't be the election in November -- a gaming issue has never failed in a statewide vote. The toughest part could instead be convincing Taney County voters…"
