Missouri Loss Limit Goes Back to General Assembly4 May 2005KANSAS CITY, Missouri – As reported by the Kansas City Star: "This year's push to repeal Missouri's $500 casino loss limit is expected to hit the General Assembly soon, and Senate Majority Leader Charlie Shields will lead the effort. "'We can use the money,' Shields, a St. Joseph Republican, said of the additional $80 million to $130 million he estimated the repeal and related changes to gambling laws could pump into the state treasury for education. "Action is expected no later than next week on the restriction, which limits how much a gambler can lose every two hours. "Shields said the game plan called for the amendments to be attached to House Bill 592, which would earmark any taxable jackpots won by self-banned problem gamblers for deposit in Missouri's problem-gambling fund. Casinos currently are allowed to keep those jackpots, which are rare. "Gambling foes are expected to resist a repeal of the loss limit. "…Repeal of the loss limit has been a decade long goal of the casino industry, which argues that high rollers and tourists shun Missouri's confusing betting restrictions and its requirement that gamblers be registered before they can play so their losses can be tracked…" |
