Missouri casino licence moratorium approved

MISSOURI -- As reported by the St. Louis Business Journal: "The Missouri House of Representatives gave initial approval Wednesday to a bill that would prohibit the Missouri Gaming Commission from issuing a new license to casinos until Jan. 1, 2010.

"...Missouri Gaming Commission Executive Director Gene McNary said the bill would not stop Pinnacle Entertainment's $450 million River City casino project in Lemay, Mo., from opening in the first half of 2009. Casinos are not licensed until construction is finished and the casino is ready for business, but McNary said Cooper made it clear the legislation will be changed so that the bill would only stop new construction.

"That would affect a planned casino in Sugar Creek, Mo., a suburb of Kansas City. Des Moines, Iowa-based Wild Rose Entertainment was the only applicant for that license..."
