Mississippi tribe looks forward to casino vote10 April 2007PASCAGOULA, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Press: "A tribal spokesperson said by e-mail the Mississippi Band of Choctaws looks forward to a November referendum on a proposed Choctaw casino in Jackson County. "'As an elected official, Chief (Phillip) Martin has always placed great faith in voters and the ability of people to do what is in the best interest of their communities,' wrote spokesperson Chassidy Wilson. "In an e-mail, Wilson repeated Martin's pledge not to build a casino if Jackson County voters voted against the proposed casino, which will be built on Miss. 57 just north of Ocean Springs city limits and south of Ocean Springs Road and Interstate 10. "…Wilson said the proposed $375 million development is expected to generate 2,800 new onsite jobs with annual payroll of $71 million, or about $25,000 per job. Additionally, the tribe expects another 4,230 direct or indirect jobs will be created by the casino project. These jobs have a projected payroll of $110 million, or $26,000 per job…" |
