Mississippi officials: More communication needed13 October 2006OCEAN SPRINGS, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "Jackson County officials said Thursday that more communication is needed between local officials and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians about plans for a proposed casino. "Ward 5 Alderman Jerry Dalgo of Ocean Springs said the board and city officials had no idea the Choctaws had reserved the Ocean Springs Civic Center for a hearing planned next week until the information was published in the Sun Herald. He said that the paperwork given to the city said only that the event would be a meeting. "…Dalgo said he believes more notice should have been given to the city and the public. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Civic Center. "Jackson County Supervisor John McKay said he feels the tribe's handling of the hearing severely damaged their relationship with the local community…" |
