Mississippi Mayor Targets Illegal Gambling9 January 2004MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Bolivar Commerical: "Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood's top priority is to rid the community of illegal gambling. "…Haywood said he's heard rumors of illegal gambling machines, such as Video Poker machines, throughout the county and he plans to find them. "It's a problem in several cities, he said. The machines are often found in bars and restaurants, but Haywood said they can also be in places not normally suspected, including people's homes. "…Persons owning an illegal gambling machine can receive fines anywhere from $300 to $500 and third time offenses are considered a felony and can carry a prison sentence of a year or more…" |
