Mississippi District May Rezone for Casino

HANCOCK COUNTY, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "Planning and zoning officials are proposing changes to regulations that could shape the future face of South Mississippi's fastest-growing county.

"According to the proposed changes, the county plans to add a C-3 commercial resort district, allowing 12-story resorts, hotels and condominiums in an area between Poinset Avenue and Bordages Street, near Clermont Harbor.

"Zoning officials want to add another, larger but less restrictive, C-4 commercial resort district, from Poinset Avenue east to Bayou Caddy, that would allow construction on new buildings without height restrictions.

"…Kirk Ladner, a developer wanting to build South Beach Casino and Resort near Clermont Harbor, has asked the county to create a special-use district, allowing the casino and a 14-story hotel and parking garage in the proposed C-3 zone.

"Ladner said he could consider dropping his plans to add a 12-story hotel, if the special-use district was created to allow the casino…"
