Mississippi Commission Asks for Reports

JACKSON, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "The Mississippi Gaming Commission has asked general managers at all casinos to voluntarily file reports by April 11 on the money they spend with state firms for goods and services, but a state legislator wants stronger action.

"Sen. John Horhn, D-Jackson, told the commissioners at their meeting last week that he's worried that mega-mergers in the casino industry will have an adverse effect on initiatives to keep the money in Mississippi and direct it toward minority and women-owned businesses. He made the comments after the commission approved plans for Harrah's Entertainment to acquire Caesars Entertainment.

"…Gaming Commission Chairman Jerry St. Pe' at the beginning of the meeting noted that letters had been sent to all general managers asking for their cooperation with the survey so the agency can establish a credible baseline on money spent in the state by casinos…"
