Mississippi coast revenue down again

BILOXI, Mississippi -- As reported by The Sun Herald: "Revenue was down for the third straight month at Coast casinos, yet the numbers were better than in many areas of the country.

"The Mississippi Tax Commission's Gross Casino Revenue report released Friday shows the 11 Coast casinos won $96 million this November, compared with $103 million in November 2007.

"The Mississippi River casinos took a much bigger hit from the slow economy, down $12 million in November after falling $7 million in October.

"Total earnings for the state were $205 million compared with $225 million in November 2007, with Coast casinos down 7.6 percent, the state 8.8 percent lower and the river casinos down 9.9 percent.

"Scott King, director of research and policy for the Gulf Coast Business Council, expects Coast casinos to be down 3 percent for the year, compared with the 8 percent decline reported in Nevada for the year and the 20 percent drop this year in Illinois, where a smoking ban was enacted..."
