Mississippi Casinos Don't Expect Changes Under New Governor6 November 2003MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Mississippi Sun Herald: "Despite a new Republican governor and dozens of new faces in the Mississippi Legislature, the head of the state gambling organization doesn't expect many changes for the casino industry. "`I'm reasonably optimistic that the gaming industry will continue to receive a fair shake,' said Andy Bourland, head of the Mississippi Gaming Association, which represents the state's 29 commercial casinos. "Although Gov.-elect Haley Barbour has spoken out against expanding gambling across the state, he has taken a tough stance against higher gambling taxes. "…One casino-related change that Barbour may make is to the Mississippi Gaming Commission, now made up of Gov. Ronnie Musgrove's three appointees…" |
