Mississippi casinos develop amenities11 May 2007BILOXI, Mississippi -- As reported by the Mississippi Clarion-Ledger: "Mississippi's Gulf Coast casinos are embracing restaurants branded by well-known chefs, golf courses designed by professional golfers and top-notch entertainment to develop a destination resort market independent of slots and table games. "Such nongaming activities helped propel Las Vegas' gaming industry to its No. 1 spot and increase profits, according to analysts at the 14th annual Southern Gaming Summit in Biloxi, which has drawn more than 2,000 attendees in the largest gaming summit outside Las Vegas. "..Mary Crachiola, spokeswoman for Beau Rivage Casino Resort in Biloxi, said gaming has changed from the days of $1.99 buffets in Las Vegas to celebrity chefs, spas, fitness centers and golf courses. "...Larry Gregory, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, noted that some of the celebrity chefs are partnering with Coast casinos. "Todd English owns Olives at Beau Rivage, Emerile Lagasse is opening a restaurant in mid-June at Island View Casino Resort in Gulfport, and Luke Palladino has a restaurant named Bragozzo at Isle of Capri in Biloxi, he said.
